Francesco Veenstra, appointed Chief Government Architect in September 2021, leads the Board of Government Advisers, steering the architectural and urban quality of government projects while advising the Minister of the Interior and the Director-General of the Central Government Real Estate Agency. With a rich background as a partner at Vakwerk Architecten and former co-owner at Mecanoo, Veenstra brings extensive expertise in cultural, educational, commercial, and infrastructural projects. His leadership extends beyond formal roles, actively shaping professional discourse and advocating for spatial quality alongside esteemed colleagues. A graduate of the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture, Veenstra’s tenure as Chairman of the Association of Dutch Architectural Firms reflects his commitment to advancing the field. Building on the legacy of his predecessor, Veenstra embarks on a dual role, marrying his responsibilities as Government Architect with his continued practice at Vakwerk, poised to further enrich the architectural landscape.
